Brahmajnaa or Aatmajnaana has been viewed by our seers differently depending on their intution and the school to which they belong. Views have dominated the interpretations. Books became secondary and views have got prominence. The apparent differences among Sankara, Raamaanuja and Madhwa interpretations as Adwaita, Visistaadwaita and dwaita have been perpetuated through generations unfortunately sometimes with animosity and an atmosphere of disagreement with vehement denial exists among them.
For example the interpretations of the word maya. Maya is normally commented as "illusion", and the like meanings. Maya is having many definitions - yaa maa saa maayaa - is one having the above meaning. There is another definition - yayaa asantam pasyati saa maayaa - iti-. This definition means - Through which we cognize the within mental world and outside physical world - that is maya - . The traditional differences and non-agreements handed down to us through generations can be reviewed and reconciliation is to be attempted. Comprehensive understanding of evolution of Indian spiritual thought is the need of the hour. We better try to agree on common points than perpetuating earlier differences in the insight of "prasthaanatrayam" - the Upanishads, Brahmasutras and the Bhawadgita - commentaries by the three eminent aachaaryas - Sankara, Raamaanuja and Madhwa. Refreshing and reconciliation leads to harmony in our traditional insights and understanding.
Maya has to be understood as psychic or mental energy which facilitates our cognitions and communications that are carried out by our mind during acquisition and communication of knowledge of all kinds and languages and skills of all types likes music, dance, sculpting, painting like fine- arts and driving, like techniques.
