Yoga - an addiction otherwise

Yoga - an Addiction otherwise

Presently "Yoga" is a magic word uttered by swamis, ammas, babas, bapus, aanandaas, sanyaasis and like spiritual "masters" and is working wonders to the imagination of many people. It starts with physical exercises and mostly ends with them as instructed by these commercial gurus.

Many are recommending Yoga to all the presently stressed and strained generation doing the white color jobs. And we have so many "Yogas" in vogue. Most of us are mesmerized by the word Yoga and get inspired to do one or the other Yoga being instructed by our chosen guru.

What is the fruit of dong that Yoga? The people doing that Yoga know. Yoga and meditation though are same Yoga is equated with physical exercises by many gurus.

Yoga has many names and definitions:

Bhakti Yoga
Karma Yoga
Jnaana Yoga

are proposed, explained and prescribed by the Bhagavadgita in accordance with the mental attitude and liking of the individual.

Yogah karmasu kousalam
Yogah chitta vritti nirodhaha
cheto vritti: uupetya tishthati sadaa saa sthitihi yogah.

Many gurus are advertising and practicing Yoga reducing it to mere performance of physical exercises. I can say many are "addicted" to this definition and practice. Physical exercises are to Yoga as primary education is to education.

Definitely physical exercises will benefit but just doing them is not Yoga. Yoga is a lot to do with mind and its vagaries. One must know and understand what is mind and what are it vagaries and how to get rid of them.
Let us all start to understand Yoga has a lot to do with our mind too and let us practice that also which is almost same as meditation. Unless we have an insight of consciousness, mind, its form, structure, function and control,Yoga remains unintelligible to us and hence will not be able to help us to get rid of our mental stresses and strains and live a life of equanimity. Let us all practice Yoga in all its sublimity.
Else Yoga remains a fascination and fashion.
